One methodological focus is the numerical simulation of flows (CFD Computational Fluid Dynamics) - a technique which in recent years has increasingly supplemented the traditional pillars of fluid mechanics, theory and experiment. Besides the further development of simulation techniques, the optimization of algorithms for parallel supercomputers, the application of these techniques for the solution of engineering problems is in the foreground. The second methodological focus is the further development and application of modern, laser-based measurement techniques in fluid mechanics.
