The main goal of this project is the development and model validation of an energy-efficient mobile distillation plant that extracts humidity from air and produces drinking water. The absorption process is supported by highly hygroscopic Lithium-Chloride brine. The enriched solution is then distilled by mechanical vapour compression (MVC). The project is a cooperation with DEWA Engineering und Anlagenbau GmbH and financially supported by the Central Innovation Programme for SMEs of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. The equipment fabrication and assembly are carried out by the industrial partner DEWA. Measurements, process simulations and consequently the scaling and optimization of the facility are performed by the Institute of Applied Mechanics at TU Clausthal.
