Welcome to the Institute of Applied Mechanics !

The Institute of Applied Mechanics is embedded in the Faculty of Mathematics/Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering. The main goal of the institute is a balanced ratio between fundamental and applied sciences, which should influence the lectures and further educations by modern methods of mechanics. In this respect we think on challenging numerical and sophisticated experimental methods. The strategical orientation of the research activities is oriented in view of the interdisciplinarity in solid and fluid mechanics. Accordingly, the research topics are mainly formulated with other institutions in a cooperative manner starting with classical engineering disciplines and followed by natural sciences. In this context mechanics stands for the link between mathematics, physics and engineering sciences. Particularly, the latter is related to the education of students. Traditionally, mechanics represents a bridge between engineering and the more theoretical sciences of mathematics and physics.
